Posted by Mel on December 19th, 2007

In a couple of news releases from China, they are promising to reduce the number of pesticides from 16,000 to 1700. This effort will begin in January when the government will no longer approve commercial names.
By July, 2008, if things go according to the planner’s advertised goals, all pesticides will be sold under their chemical […]

Toxic Grizzly Bears

Toxic Grizzly Bears
The amount of toxics ingested by Grizzly Bears is dependent upon their diet. In British Columbia, some bears live off the land and some take part in a seasonal salmon fest. If you catch the article by one of the authors of a recent paper, http://www.counterpunch.org/macduffee12142007.html  with the headline, How Environment Canada is […]

POPs linked to Human Cancer

Posted by Mel on December 17th, 2007

Scientists in British Columbia have linked elevated blood levels of POPs with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma in a very believable study. The only thing wrong with the study is that the scientists believe that chlordane, the POP most responsible for the link, is banned when it is in massive global use to control termites in developing […]

Posted by Mel on December 13th, 2007

High concentrations of toxaphene have been reported in fish eating high on the Lake Laberge food chain:
This is no surprise, toxaphene will be found in any cold, clear northern lake. If chlordane was to be assayed, it would be found in more toxic concentrations. Until global use is stopped, our waters will remain contaminated.

Posted by Mel on December 13th, 2007

A Canadian study compared patients with non-Hodgkins Lymphoma to disease free persons >>
People with the cancer had significantly higher levels of PCBs and persistent pesticides such as toxaphene, chlordane, etc.
Unfortunately, the study recommends a larger study instead of communicating the risks to exposed publics that consume fish or sea mammals, or more importantly push for […]

Toxaphene found in Canadian Yukon Lake: Chlordane?

Posted by Mel on December 11th, 2007

Toxaphene has been found at high levels in fish high on the food chain in the Yucon’s Lake Laberge: http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1200/is_n3_v148/ai_17294370
Scientists were surprised. One wonders why. If Lake superior and the Arctic Ocean are contaminated with continuing global uses of toxaphene, why should a lake in the northern Yukon be immune?
They should look for chlordane, and […]
